Match Preview

Juventus will play their first home league match of the 2026/27 Serie A campaign when they welcome Parma to Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening. Luciano Spalletti's side arrive in Turin with three points already on the board after beginning the season with a narrow 1-0 victory away to newly promoted Frosinone.

Parma, meanwhile, have the opposite objective. Carlos Cuesta's team suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Cagliari on the opening weekend and will now face one of the most demanding away fixtures in Italian footbal

The early league table mean there little reason to read too much into positions after only one match, but the contrast in results is significant. Juventus have an opportunity to make it two wins from two, while Parma are attempting to avoid starting the campaign with consecutive defeats.

Juventus' opening victory at Frosinone was more convincing statistically than the scoreline suggested. The Bianconeri had 65% possession, produced 19 attempts and registered an expected-goals figure of roughly 1.7 according to one major statistical database. Frosinone managed only 11 shots and generated considerably less attacking threat.

Gleison Bremer scored the only goal with a header, but Juventus had opportunities to make the game more comfortable. Their inability to convert those chances is one of the main areas Spalletti will want improved against Parma.

The home side also have a particularly interesting statistical incentive. Juventus are attempting to win their opening two Serie A fixtures without conceding for the third consecutive season. They also recorded 46 passes inside the opposition penalty area on the opening weekend, the highest total in the league during Matchday 1.

Parma's opening performance was considerably less productive. They lost 1-0 to Cagliari despite having 13 shots, with only two finding the target. Their possession share was 47%, while Cagliari recorded 53% and created the better-quality chances. Parma's xG was around 0.75 compared with approximately 0.94 for the visitors.

That lack of attacking efficiency will be a concern before a trip to Turin

Tactical Breakdown

Spalletti is expected to continue with a 4-2-3-1 structure. Juventus showed against Frosinone that they are comfortable controlling possession while pushing several players into advanced areas.

The midfield pairing provides the foundation for that approach, with Manuel Locatelli expected to help dictate the rhythm while Luiz offers additional progression. Ahead of them, Francisco Conceicao can provide width and one-versus-one ability from the right.

The absence of Kenan Yildiz could force an important attacking adjustment. Yildiz was injured during the opening match and is expected to miss this fixture, leaving Juventus to consider alternatives such as Jeremie Boga or Kerim Alajbegovic.

Without Yildiz, Juventus may rely more heavily on Conceicao's creativity and the movement of the attacking midfielders around Randal Kolo Muani.

Kolo Muani will also under scrutiny. The French striker returned permanently to Juventus after his previous loan spell, but Spalletti has already challenged him to improve his level following the Frosinone match. He missed a significant opportunity in the opener and will need to be more clinical against Parma.

Parma are expected to use a 4-3-3. The visitors need to find a balance between staying compact and giving their forwards enough support to threaten Juventus in transition.

One of Parma's biggest challenges will be defending the spaces between their midfield and defensive lines. Juventus were able to put significant numbers into advanced positions against Frosinone, and Parma cannot afford to allow the hosts to circulate possession around the edge of the box without pressure.

At the same time, Parma could cause problems if they can escape Juventus' first wave of pressure. Quick attacks through the wide areas may be their best route to creating chances.

Analysis

On paper, Juventus have the stronger squad and considerably greater depth. Their advantage is not simply about individual quality; it is also about their ability to change the game from the bench.

Parma's summer squad turnover has made the task more complicated. The club lost several important players, including goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, while striker Mateo Pellegrino also moved on. The changes have left Cuesta with a squad that still requires time to develop its attacking chemistry.

The opening weekend provided another warning sign. Parma managed 13 shots against Cagliari but only two were on target. That suggests the problem was not necessarily a complete inability to reach shooting positions, but rather the quality and accuracy of the final action. Juventus, by comparison, generated 19 shots against Frosinone and five on target. Their approximately 1.74 xG figure was more than twice Parma's attacking output from their first league match. There is also a strong historical trend favouring Juventus. The Bianconeri have won 28 Serie A matches against Parma, with only AC Milan and Roma having beaten Parma more frequently in the competition. The most recent league meetings have also largely gone Juventus' way: they won 2-0 in Turin in August 2025 before recording a 4-1 victory in Parma in February 2026. However, Parma should not be completely dismissed. Their away record improved during the previous campaign, and they recorded four clean sheets across their final eight Serie A away matches. That indicates Cuesta's side can become difficult to break down when the defensive structure works properly. The key question is whether Parma can maintain that structure for 90 minutes at Allianz Stadium. Juventus should dominate possession and territory, but the game could remain close if Parma defend the penalty area effectively. The hosts' finishing will therefore be crucial.

Team News

Juventus are expected to be without Kenan Yildiz after the forward suffered an injury in the opening-day victory. Federico Gatti is also a doubt, while Jeff Ekhator remains unavailable according to the latest team-news reports.

The injury to Yildiz is particularly significant because he was expected to play an important role in Juventus' attacking structure. Jeremie Boga is among the leading candidates to replace him.

Guglielmo Vicario is expected to continue in goal, while Bremer should start in central defence. The Brazilian defender is also set to make his 100th Serie A appearance for Juventus if selected.

Parma will be without former Juventus midfielder Hans Nicolussi Caviglia, who is dealing with a groin problem. El-Bilal Toure is expected to retain his place in the attacking line after starting the opening match.

Expected Juventus lineup:
Vicario; Kalulu, Bremer, Kelly, Cambiaso; Locatelli, Luiz; Conceicao, McKennie, Boga; Kolo Muani.

Expected Parma lineup:
Corvi; Delprato, Troilo, Valenti, Valeri; Ordonez, Keita, Bernabe; Almqvist, Toure, Lontani.

These are projected lineups rather than confirmed selections, with official team sheets expected closer to kick-off.

Head-to-Head

  • Juventus have won 28 Serie A matches against Parma, making them one of Parma's most frequent conquerors in the Italian top flight.
  • Juventus won the most recent meeting 4-1 away at Parma on February 1, 2026.
  • The previous meeting in Turin ended 2-0 to Juventus on August 24, 2025.
  • Juventus' biggest Serie A victory over Parma came in November 2014, when they won 7-0 at Allianz Stadium.
  • Parma have won their first away league match of the season only once across their last 21 Serie A campaigns, recording eight draws and 12 defeats in the other 20.
  • Three of Parma's defeats in that sequence came against Juventus, with the Turin side winning those matches by an aggregate 8-1.
  • Juventus completed the league double over Parma during the 2025/26 season, winning both encounters.

Prediction

Juventus should enter this match as clear favourites, but the opening weekend showed that Spalletti's side are not yet operating at their most clinical level. The positive for Juventus is that the underlying performance against Frosinone was strong. They controlled 65% of possession, had a significant advantage in shots and created considerably more expected-goal value. The 1-0 scoreline therefore does not fully represent the difference between the teams on the day. Parma will probably attempt to make the game uncomfortable by defending compactly and looking for opportunities on the counterattack. Their chances of getting a result will increase if Juventus become impatient and leave spaces behind the full-backs, However, Juventus have too much quality in midfield and attack for Parma to remain under pressure indefinitely. The home side's ability to use Conceicao, Boga and the overlapping full-backs should eventually create openings. The main concern for Juventus is their finishing. If they waste another collection of good chances, Parma could remain in the contest until the final stages Still, the combination of home advantage, squad quality, recent head-to-head dominance and the statistical superiority shown on Matchday 1 makes Juventus the logical choice.

Prediction: Juventus 2-0 Parma

A 2-0 Juventus victory would fit the early-season pattern: territorial control, a strong defensive structure and enough attacking quality to secure the points without necessarily producing a huge scoreline.

The first goal could be decisive. If Juventus score early, Parma may be forced to abandon their compact shape, creating the spaces the hosts want. If Parma survive the opening period, however, this could become a much more patient and tactical contest, For Juventus, the objective is straightforward: turn last weekend's promising performance into a more complete home display and start the Spalletti era with maximum points from the opening two league matches. Parma, meanwhile, need a disciplined defensive performance and a significant improvement in the final third if they are to leave Turin with anything.
